In 1870, Spanish merchant Juan Lopez opened a cigar factory in Havana, and by 1876 he officially established his own brand. Before the Cuban Revolution, the brand was considered a highly popular premium Cuban label. Known for its mild yet distinctive woody Cuban aroma, Juan Lopez cigars attracted many loyal aficionados of Havana smokes.
