Diplomáticos was launched in 1966, becoming the first Cuban cigar brand created after the Revolution for commercial sale. It was initially developed to open the French market, where smokers preferred milder flavors, so the tobacco blend was adjusted accordingly. Similar to Montecristo, the sizes are described by numbers rather than names, though Diplomáticos cigars are generally milder in strength compared to Montecristo. These are Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga – totally handmade long-filler cigars – crafted with filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region.
